As a composer and teacher I often write etudes for my students. This particular one was written for a fine young guitarist named Arthur Simonian who was one of my top students at the International School of Music in Glendale, California, USA.
A basic technical approach that I use throughout my teaching and composing for classical guitar is to use rest stroke if the figure is scalular in nature and free stroke if the figure is arpeggiated. The young student for whom this work was written is also a star basketball player so I tried to capture the dribbling of the ball as well as the intensity and action on the court. This work will be featured in my second book of Student Inspired Etudes for Classical Guitar titled "Twenty Two for You, Take Two"
